MOJO Jazz

board deputy secretary

Jazz in my soul

Tim Coffman

I have been involved with MOJO for about 8 years and have been a board member for around 6 years. I am from Athens, Alabama where I graduated from Athens High School. I attended Tennessee State University in Nashville and The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

I would classify myself as a professional government employee. I worked for N.A.S.A. at Marshall Space Flight Center, the Internal Revenue Service, the US Postal Service, and finally the Wage and Hour Division of the US Department of Labor.

In addition to Nashville and Huntsville, I lived in Birmingham for 20-plus years. I wandered to the Mobile area in 2010 and have been here ever since.

One of my favorite things to do is play pool and I am looking into pickleball. My love for jazz has been lifelong, beginning with listening to Miles Davis and David Sanborn while traveling between Athens and Nashville. Jazz will forever be in my soul. I attribute the late Carmen Brown to my involvement with MOJO. She talked me into developing a Jazz Jambalaya and asked me to join the board. In her honor, “str8 ahead!”
