Since the middle of March, all our lives have changed. Not just socially, physically and mentally. Everything came to the proverbial screeching halt. But, we shifted gears and are inching forward, one day at a time. In the eyes of the universe, all of us are going through the same thing - hope, worry, loss - but we have the ability to take pleasure in small things and look forward to a better future.
Last month, we asked for your input on how to proceed. You shared your thoughts. Thank you. Responses
It's going to be a long, cautious haul. The strong consensus is to "wait and see" before we schedule our next Jazz Jambalaya. MOJO's Board of Directors agree and will follow the best post-COVID practices recommended by health professionals, community and national leaders, performing arts venues, musicians, and most importantly, YOU.
Until safe standards are set, we're improvising. Some of you are listening to great recordings or watching jazz artists live streaming intimate shows. Gardening, home improvements, writing, reading, volunteering, organizing photos or tackling overdue "rainy day" projects have occupied others. What have you been doing? BOBBA TURLEY, BAKER
I have enjoyed baking for many years. So was delighted to “attack” a long desire to conquer the art of macaron* baking when we were asked to “stay home”. What a joy it has been. YouTube has been my teacher. I’ve spent hours watching videos contradicting each other on the art of the bake! The basic ingredients are just four. How could it be that difficult….right? Well, let me count the ways (Ha! Ha!) Climate, humidity, over-beating, under-beating, air bubbles, under “aged” egg whites to name a few. Here are some results as I continue my “course”.

Q: How you doing, Joe?
Q: So what is H-H-H-B?
A: H-H-H-B. Happy. Healthy. Hibernating. And Broke.
Q: Have you been doing any gigs or anything like that?
A: I've done a couple of beach weddings in Gulf Shores. The last three Tuesdays, I've been at Calvert's, a new club over here. It's been doing really really good so far.
Q: What's the turnout been like there?
A: You know, for a restaurant and bar, it's been real good. Which surprised me, but of course, it's at a time when there's a lot of people that would be showing up aren't because they're still isolating themselves. But a lot of them and a lot of new people are showing up, so it's good. Other than that, I'm just planning dates and trying to keep the music going.
